Hi, I’m Kaitlin Culhane.

I couldn’t be more excited to be part of the Loomis Basin Charter School family.  I have always had a passion for teaching children and am so thankful to be given the opportunity to spend each day doing what I genuinely love. I was born and raised in the Granite Bay area and love getting to change and grow with a unique community. This will be my 15th year teaching second grade at LBCS.

My son Jaxon attends LBCS, as I can’t imagine him attending anywhere else. We love reading, working in the community, and playing sports. When we aren’t on campus, we are usually on the baseball or soccer field.

I am also a world traveler having been to Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Ireland, England, Wales, Greece, Australia, Canada, and Mexico. I have a great interest in all cultures and believe it is essential that students learn about and celebrate a variety. This is one reason why I think that being part of an I.B. school is such a fantastic opportunity. Being able to teach in an environment that focuses on the total growth of the developing child, touching their hearts as well as their minds and encompassing physical, social, emotional and cultural needs alongside academic development is a truly wonderful thing. My classroom is designed around teaching through inquiry. Instead of standing up in the front of the class and “telling” the students what they need to know, I create opportunities for them to be engaged in active learning, based on their own questions. Inquiry is an approach to learning that involves a process of exploring the natural world, which leads to asking questions and making discoveries in search of new understanding. “Tell me and I forget, show me and I remember, involve me and I understand."
