Hello! My name is Karen Long and I cannot tell you how much I love being a teacher at Loomis Basin Charter School. I started teaching in 1997 and became a part of the amazing LBCS community in 2011. I hold a Bachelor of Science in both Elementary Education and Early Childhood Development, as well as a Masters of Science in Education, focusing on Reading and Literacy. Though I have enjoyed all of my teaching experiences - 4th grade, 5th grade, kindergarten, and reading intervention specialist - my love is in the classroom with the little ones.
I was born and raised in the Great Lakes state, Michigan. After college, I moved to California and now live in Folsom with my husband and our cat. Outside of school I love to spend time with my family, go to movies, listen to music, cook, and read!
Teaching is truly my passion and I have wanted to be a teacher since a very young age. After my own experiences as a student, I realized what an impact an adult can make in a child's life, whether for good or bad. Beyond learning rich curriculum, growing as a learner and thinker, and developing problem-solving skills, my goal each year for every student is to leave kindergarten knowing that they are loved!
